This excursion will take you along the Ourika River, through lush green valleys, orchards, and traditional Berber villages clinging to the mountainsides. You will have the opportunity to visit a local Berber market (usually on Mondays and Thursdays), learn about argan oil production at a women's cooperative, and enjoy the natural beauty of the region. The highlight for many is reaching the village of Setti Fatma, from where you can take an (optional) hike to a series of seven waterfalls, though even the first is a pleasant reward.
This excursion is ideal for those who want to experience the natural beauty and Berber culture of the Atlas Mountains on a short trip from Marrakech, enjoying a cooler and more tranquil environment.
Detailed Itinerary
Day Unique: Marrakech - Ourika Valley - Setti Fatma - Marrakech
The excursion begins in the morning with pick-up at your hotel or Riad in Marrakech (or a nearby meeting point). We will leave Marrakech heading southeast towards the High Atlas mountains. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Along the way, we will stop to admire the scenery and, if it is market day, visit a traditional Berber souk.
Optionally, we can visit a women's cooperative where argan oil is produced, to learn about the process and its benefits. Upon reaching the Ourika Valley, we will follow the river to the village of Setti Fatma, the last point accessible by road. Here, you will have free time to explore. Many choose to have a traditional lunch (not included) at one of the many riverside restaurants. For the more adventurous, there is the possibility to hire a local guide (optional, not included) to hike to the famous seven waterfalls of Setti Fatma. The walk to the first waterfall is relatively easy, while reaching the upper ones requires more effort and proper footwear.
After enjoying the fresh mountain air and the natural beauty of the valley, in the afternoon, we will begin the journey back to Marrakech. We will arrive in the late afternoon and drop you off at your hotel/Riad or the initial pick-up point.
